The story

This untitled piece unfolds a naïf jungle of total density: the foliage burns in reds and oranges, the branches twist in blue, and the black background pushes every color to the front. Green parrots, a monkey and other animals surface amid the undergrowth, scattered across the whole surface with no hierarchy or academic perspective. The silkscreen preserves the vibration of flat color and the horror vacui that marks the painter.

Feliciano Carvallo (Venezuela, 1920–2011) was a self-taught naïf painter, and this work bears his thematic signature: tropical jungle and fauna carried to an exuberant, almost feverish state. With no academic training, he built a world of his own in which nature becomes ornament and narrative at once.

Why this work?

This untitled work (1992), by Feliciano Carvallo, is a silkscreen on paper measuring 50 × 65 cm: a dense naïf jungle of red-orange foliage and blue branches on a black background, with green parrots, a monkey and other animals. An artist's proof (P/A), signed. It was selected by Pablo Vaca for EL ART DEALER for the force of its tropical jungle and its self-taught naïf imagination.

In your space

Horizontal in format and blazing in color, it calls for a wall that can hold its intensity: a dining room, a living room or an entryway with a neutral backdrop, where the jungle becomes the focal point.
