The story
Against a black ground, a row of folded white forms crosses the canvas describing an arc: it enters at the left edge at mid-height, rises towards the centre and comes back down, stopping short of the right edge. Each form is a straight plane, like a folded sheet of paper or a plate, catching the light on one face and falling into shadow on the other.
The lower edge is another matter: there the work stops being painting and becomes material. A band of pale aggregate, like gravel, is set with dozens of elongated elements — splinters or spikes — driven into it and protruding in every direction. Beneath it, a tangle of continuous white lines runs the full width of the canvas, like a thread of paint let fall.
Between those two loaded zones the black stays smooth and empty, and that is what makes the row of white planes seem to float. The work is titled «Elementos» and is dated 2014.
