The story

This untitled work concentrates all its force in a gray dappled horse, draped in a red blanket, cut against a black background that amplifies its presence. The technique—intervened silkscreen—combines the print with the artist's own hand, so the surface keeps unique nuances and accents. The horizontal format frames the animal almost as a monumental portrait, serene and imposing at once.

Alirio Palacios (Venezuela, 1938–2015) was an engraver and large-format painter, known for his command of graphic technique and for a recurring bestiary—horses, roosters—handled at an uncommon scale and with uncommon force. This piece sums up that craft: the animal as central motif, elevated by the rigor of printmaking and the power of large format.

Why this work?

This untitled work (1990), by Alirio Palacios, is an intervened silkscreen on paper measuring 55 × 75 cm: a gray dappled horse with a red blanket, commanding in presence, cut against a black background in a horizontal format. A signed piece. It was selected by Pablo Vaca for EL ART DEALER for the force of the print and the firmness of its line.

In your space

Horizontal in format and bold in contrast, it shines on a lead wall—above a sofa, in an office or a dining room—where the horse can assert its scale against a clear expanse.
