The story

This untitled piece arranges overlapping planes in different shades of blue, among which a multicolor accent and a thin yellow line emerge to activate the composition. The silkscreen —signed, in an edition of 120— works color through layers and transparencies, balancing the restraint of blue with the chromatic flash that interrupts it.

Mercedes Pardo (1921–2005) was a Venezuelan abstract painter for whom color was the central subject of the work. This work on paper reflects that sensibility: color understood as matter and structure, able to build space and rhythm from planes and subtle nuances.

Why this work?

This untitled work (1997) by Mercedes Pardo is a silkscreen on paper measuring 53 × 41 cm, in a signed edition numbered 2/120. Overlapping planes in shades of blue, a multicolor accent, and a thin yellow line reveal her command of color, the central subject of her work within Venezuelan abstraction. It was selected by Pablo Vaca for EL ART DEALER for its chromatic refinement and intimate format.

In your space

Its contained vertical format and palette of blues make it ideal for an intimate setting: a hallway, a bedroom, or a small wall that invites a close look.
