"Trans-Form-Cromia" in a room
Room view — approximate scale on a 3.2 m wall

The story

The piece is a black square with concave sides, like a taut sail. Inside it opens a whirl of tesserae arranged in rings that turn towards the centre and end in a dark opening. The tesserae range from fluorescent orange to toasted cream, and the black between them acts as a grid.

This is not an image painted on a plane: the layers are cut and mounted at different heights — the piece is 6.5 cm deep — and in the photograph you can see the shadows some cast on others. That is why what you see changes as the viewer moves, which is the proper ground of kinetic art.

«Trans-Form-Cromia» is the name of the series to which this work belongs within Saverio Cecere's practice. This example carries the serial number NFRT 0071 and is dated 2013.

Why this work?

«Trans-Form-Cromia» (2013), by Saverio Cecere, is a cut plexiglass piece measuring 59 × 59 × 6.5 cm: a black square with concave sides inside which a whirl of fluorescent orange and toasted cream tesserae turns, mounted in layers at different heights and closing over a dark opening. Numbered piece NFRT 0071. It was selected by Pablo Vaca for EL ART DEALER because what you see changes with the viewer's position and with the light.

In your space

It needs directed light and a smooth wall so the shadow works in its favor: an entryway, a corridor or a stairwell wall where one walks past and sees it from several angles.
