The story

This untitled piece reduces two figures to an essential black line on a sepia ground. The graphic mark, spare and emphatic, defines the presences with few strokes; the print, signed «Vigas 00» as a printer's proof (P/I), preserves the strength of the drawing and the formal synthesis that characterize the artist.

Oswaldo Vigas (1923–2014) was a Venezuelan modernist painter whose work revolves around the figure, the «witches», and pre-Hispanic roots. This work on paper belongs to that universe: synthetic figures of ancestral air, resolved with a distilled graphic language.

Why this work?

This untitled work (2000) by Oswaldo Vigas is a signed print on paper measuring 24 × 28 cm, a printer's proof (P/I) signed «Vigas 00». Two synthesized figures in black line on a sepia ground condense the language of the Venezuelan modernist painter, attentive to the figure and to pre-Hispanic roots. It was selected by Pablo Vaca for EL ART DEALER for its essential graphic mark and for being a signed printer's proof.

In your space

Its small, horizontal format and sepia range suit a close, warm hang: a study wall, a shelf, or a group of graphic pieces where its intimacy can shine.
