The story

«Yo y tú» brings together two stylized faces—him and her—that intertwine until they almost merge into a single silhouette. Zapata works with a palette of warm earth tones, grays and blacks, and a synthetic line that reduces each face to its essentials. The title, written by the artist himself, confirms the reading: the meeting of two, resolved with the economy and graphic wit that came naturally to him.

Pedro León Zapata (Venezuela, 1929–2015) was a painter, muralist and, above all, the caricaturist behind the celebrated «Zapatazo». That double life—artist and press draughtsman—shows here in the direct stroke and the ability to say a great deal with little. Vertical in format, the piece reveals a more intimate Zapata, far from satire and close to affectionate portraiture.

Why this work?

«Yo y tú» (1975), by Pedro León Zapata, is a silkscreen on paper measuring 83 × 63.5 cm: two stylized faces—him and her—intertwined in warm earth tones, gray and black, signed and titled by the artist. A work on paper from the edition 32/50. It was selected by Pablo Vaca for EL ART DEALER for the synthesis of its drawing and the warmth of its color.

In your space

Its vertical format and warm palette make it perfect for an intimate spot: a hallway, a study or a bedroom reading nook, where the two faces invite you to step closer.
