The story
The surface is divided into dozens of rectangular panels of different sizes, fitted side by side like the tesserae of a mosaic. Each carries its own motif, and the whole reads at once as a single image and as many.
Three things recur: women's faces — frontal, in profile, doubled, some with hair made of red drips —, red horses at the gallop, and seated or reclining figures. Between them, panels of chequerboard and polka dots in blues, oranges and greens act as pauses.
Blue is the color that stitches the whole together: it appears in almost every panel and holds up the reds and ochres. The work is almost two metres wide, signed «DAVID ACOSTA» in red at the lower right and dated 2006.
Why this work?
This untitled work (2006), by David Acosta, is a mixed media measuring 124 × 197 cm: a surface divided into dozens of rectangular panels, like a mosaic, with women's faces, galloping red horses and reclining figures, stitched together by a blue that appears in almost all of them. A unique, signed and dated work, selected by Pablo Vaca for EL ART DEALER for its scale and for how much it rewards close looking.
In your space
It is the largest work in the catalog: almost two metres wide. It needs a whole wall and distance, in a large living room or a reception space.

About the artist
David Acosta
Venezuela · Figurative painting
David Acosta is a painter with a figurative, narrative streak: scenes of crowds and urban characters, resolved with firm drawing and saturated color, often in glass paint, which leaves the color translucent. He lived in Copenhagen in the early 1980s, according to Pablo Vaca, and four of his works in this collection are signed there: two in 1980, one in 1983 and one in 1985.
