The story
Four half-length figures line up from left to right behind a band of color that serves as a table or a bar, on which one of them rests a hand. They are made of overlapping patches of white, ochre, yellow and red, with black strokes drawing hair, profiles and the folds of clothing; the faces are barely resolved.
The ground is a turquoise blue scattered with pale, green and yellow circles, and the lower band holds pale turquoise circles and orange ones over greens and yellows. The signature «DAVID ACOSTA» is at the lower right, in red.
Why this work?
This untitled work by David Acosta is a glass paint on card in a 48 × 62.5 cm frame (frame size; the work itself is smaller, still to be measured): four half-length figures, made of patches of color with black strokes, lined up against a turquoise ground with circles. A unique, signed work, selected by Pablo Vaca for EL ART DEALER for its rhythm and color.
In your space
The landscape format and turquoise suit a spot above a sideboard or in a dining room, with good natural light.

About the artist
David Acosta
Venezuela · Figurative painting
David Acosta is a painter with a figurative, narrative streak: scenes of crowds and urban characters, resolved with firm drawing and saturated color, often in glass paint, which leaves the color translucent. He lived in Copenhagen in the early 1980s, according to Pablo Vaca, and four of his works in this collection are signed there: two in 1980, one in 1983 and one in 1985.
