The story

A figure of wooden blocks painted in blues and turquoises, with the silhouette of a menina: a wide skirt made of rectangular pieces in different tones, puffed sleeves with a scale-like texture and an open white fan in one hand.

The head is a small pale-toned face with a serene expression, ringed by a rough-textured ruff and framed by a broad piece of brown wood, like the wide hairstyle of the meninas, on which sit an elongated lighter piece and a toothed metal sprocket. Two parallel metal chains run down the body.

Why this work?

This untitled sculpture by José Antonio Araujo is a mixed media piece measuring 52 × 36 × 22 cm: a menina made of blue and turquoise wooden blocks, with a white fan, a ruff and a broad wooden hairdo set with a metal sprocket. A unique piece, selected by Pablo Vaca for EL ART DEALER for its humor and color.

In your space
