The story
The whole canvas is blue, and all the blue is brushstroke. Armas loads the brush and drags: every stroke leaves its striation, so the entire surface is combed by the bristles and no color stays flat.
From that tangle a seated figure emerges, frontal, with a recognisable face — eyes, nose, mouth — resolved in two or three strokes, and something acting as a headdress above. Two more heads appear behind. Between the figures and along the edges, the ground lightens towards turquoise and lets whites and greens show through.
The signature «ARMAS» appears at the lower right, scratched with the brush handle into the wet paint. The work carries no date.
Why this work?
This untitled work by Enrico Armas is an acrylic on canvas measuring 80 × 60 cm: a seated figure emerges from an entirely blue surface built out of dragged brushstrokes, with two more heads behind and the face resolved in two or three marks. A unique, signed work. It was selected by Pablo Vaca for EL ART DEALER for the force of its blue and the combed matter covering the whole canvas.
In your space
A blue like this orders the whole room: it calls for a light wall and some distance, in a living room, an entryway or a neutral-toned bedroom.

Enrico Armas Ponce (Caracas, Venezuela, 23 November 1957) is a painter and sculptor, son of the writer Alfredo Armas Alfonzo and of Aída Ponce. He began exhibiting in Caracas as a teenager and in 1977 won the Pepino Acquavella Prize at the V Salón Nacional de Jóvenes. The following year, on a French government scholarship, he trained in France — among other places at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His work moves from abstraction to figuration and back, almost always with color leading.
