The story

Paint gathers in reds, crimsons and white-loaded pinks over a brown ground that darkens towards the edges. The strokes are wide and crossed; in the lower half the color turns to blazing ochres and yellows, as if the picture warmed from top to bottom.

Above the brushwork runs a second drawing: fine lines of red paint, raised and uniform in tone, that drag, turn and form loops and triangles over everything else. That drawing, added last, is what holds the composition together.

The title is that of «Une saison en enfer», the book Arthur Rimbaud published in 1873. The work is signed «ARMAS» at the lower right and dated 2011.

Why this work?

«Una temporada en el infierno» (2011), by Enrico Armas, is an acrylic on canvas measuring 80 × 60 cm: loaded matter in reds, crimsons and pinks over a brown ground, turning to ochres and yellows in the lower half, with a second drawing of fine raised lines in red. The title is that of Rimbaud's 1873 book. A unique, signed work, selected by Pablo Vaca for EL ART DEALER for its temperature and its double making.

In your space

This is a high-temperature painting: it works on a wall where it can take charge — a living or dining room — and with warm light to pick up the yellows at its foot.
