"Familia flotante" in a room
Room view — approximate scale on a 3.2 m wall

The story

Beneath a large red and orange parasol a family gathers: a man in a blue jacket, a red-haired woman dressed in cream and, in front, two children, one in a pink dress with a gathered skirt and the other in green trousers. At the sides, apart from the group, stand two more figures, one in pink and red at the left and a yellow-haired one in oranges at the right.

No one touches the ground: the figures float in a flat blue field scattered with pale lilac spheres; the two children and the figure at the left rest on them, while the figure at the right hangs in the air without touching any, and more loose spheres drift below. The paint is thick and glossy, the bodies built from patches of saturated color. The signature «DAVID ACOSTA» is at the lower left.

Why this work?

«Familia flotante», by David Acosta, is a glass paint on card in a 38 × 27.7 cm frame (frame size; the work itself is smaller, still to be measured): a family beneath a red parasol, among lilac spheres that float in a blue field. A unique, signed work, selected by Pablo Vaca for EL ART DEALER for its bright color and intimate format.

In your space

It is a small piece of intense color: it works at eye level in a hallway, a child's room or beside a desk.

About the artist

David Acosta

Venezuela · Figurative painting

David Acosta is a painter with a figurative, narrative streak: scenes of crowds and urban characters, resolved with firm drawing and saturated color, often in glass paint, which leaves the color translucent. He lived in Copenhagen in the early 1980s, according to Pablo Vaca, and four of his works in this collection are signed there: two in 1980, one in 1983 and one in 1985.
