The story

A horse's head in profile, turned to the left, fills the panel. The coat is a cool blue-grey, almost greenish, modelled in broad strokes; the eye, wide open, is a black sphere ringed in white, and the muzzle darkens to black at the lip.

The mane is cropped short and stands in a crest of black and white tufts along the upper edge. The headstall is of pale straps, with a buckle and a worked ring high on the head, above and behind the eye; from it hangs a chain carrying three golden drops spaced along the neck.

The ground splits into two temperatures: at the left, a warm passage of ochres, yellows and pinks laid in short strokes; at the right, a blue-green that continues the tone of the animal. The calligraphic signature is at the lower right.

Why this work?

This untitled work by Alexis Fernández Salazar is an acrylic on MDF in an 83.5 × 70 cm frame (frame size; the panel itself is smaller, still to be measured): a blue-green horse's head in profile, mane standing in a crest and a chain of three golden drops hanging from the headstall. A unique, signed work, selected by Pablo Vaca for EL ART DEALER for its gaze and for the shift of temperature in the ground.

In your space

The cool blues call for warm light beside them: a floor lamp or a cream-toned wall, in a bedroom or a quiet living room.
