The story

At the lower left there is a keyboard: the white and black keys are clearly visible in perspective, and on them a figure with green hair, leaning toward the instrument, rests both hands. She wears a dark dress covered in red flowers with elongated petals and two red bracelets at the wrist.

Behind, standing, a second figure with her hair gathered in a pink headdress and a red flower at the temple plays a violin whose mauve body is strewn with green leaves and crossed by a red band carrying the strings, its green bow rising across it and her left arm extended to the right, hand open. The faces are smooth and the limbs very long, as in the same artist's guitar-and-violin scene.

The ground is a continuous weave of blue six-leaved flowers and red flowers on green stems, with no plain passage. At the right, a green structure with orange panels closes the scene. The surface stands in relief, with thick black contours, granular whites and gold and silver glints. The signature «Pinto» is at the lower left, in yellow.

Why this work?

This untitled work, signed «Pinto», is a mixed media on canvas measuring 75 × 55 cm: one figure plays a keyboard in the foreground while another, standing, plays a violin whose mauve body is crossed by a broad red band, against a continuous weave of blue and red flowers, the whole surface standing in relief. A unique, signed work, selected by Pablo Vaca for EL ART DEALER for its rhythm of color and for pairing with the same artist's guitar-and-violin scene.

In your space

It shares size and frame with the guitar-and-violin scene: hung together at the same height, the two work as a diptych.

About the artist

Fernando Pinto

Biographical details to be confirmed · Textured painting

There are artists of this name with public records, but we have not been able to confirm which of them signs these pieces. Of the three works held in the collection one can say what is visible: scenes of musicians — guitar, violin, piano — built up in raised paste, with thick black outlines and a saturated color that leaves not a millimetre of ground empty. The figures have smooth faces and greatly elongated limbs, and in two of them the signature reads «Pinto», drawn in yellow; the third carries a different rubric, also in yellow.
