The story
«Joyful gesture» portrays, in hyperrealist detail, a girl in a tutu seated as she ties her ballet slipper. The tutu — a field of deep pink across which a lace motif runs, made with airbrush over a stencil according to Pablo Vaca — plays against the ease of the gesture: an everyday moment, just before the dance, caught with tenderness and without pose.
Marilyn Duarte combines pencil, charcoal and acrylic on canvas, setting the figure's meticulous finish against a floor of colored crayon scribbles and a backdrop of yellow stripes. That meeting of painstaking technique and childlike mark underscores the theme—childhood, play, learning—and gives the scene a bright, contemporary air.
Why this work?
«Joyful gesture» (2013) by Marilyn Duarte is a work in pencil, charcoal and acrylic on canvas measuring 60 × 60 cm: a hyperrealist girl in a tutu ties her slipper on a floor of crayon scribbles, against a backdrop of yellow stripes. A signed, one-of-a-kind, square-format piece, selected by Pablo Vaca for EL ART DEALER for its technical virtuosity and contemporary tenderness.
In your space
Its square format and warm palette—pinks, yellows and multicolored marks—make it perfect for a child's room, a dance studio, or a bright living-room wall. It brings joy and warmth to light-toned spaces.

About the artist
Marilyn Duarte
Venezuela · Mixed media and hyperrealism
The works by Marilyn Duarte in the collection all centre on a dancer: a girl tying her slipper, a dancer crouched on pointe, a nude in mid-air seen from behind and a dancer crossing a tondo. The figures are worked in greys and whites, detailed down to the lace of the tutu — which, according to Pablo Vaca, she renders with airbrush over a stencil — against grounds of damask, stripes or color.
